From gym to jail Drug-dealing bodybuilder caught with MD powder

 

 

 

 

Ganeshpeth Police arrested a well-known local bodybuilder involved in drug smuggling early Sunday morning near the Ganeshpeth bus terminus. The accused, identified as Sanket Ajay Buggewar (29), is a resident of Ashirwad Nagar and the son of former BJP Corporator Ajay Buggewar. Sanket was once a regular at the gym and had participated in several bodybuilding competitions and won many prizes. He even ran a small shop from his home selling protein powder and gym supplements. However, according to police, Sanket fell into bad company, became addicted to Mephedrone (MD) and eventually began selling it to support his drug habits.

 

Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap early Sunday morning near Ganeshpeth bus terminus. Sanket arrived in a black Thar SUV (MH-45/AV4554). When searched, police found 16.05 grams of MD powder hidden in four ziplock packets in his pocket. The police seized the drugs along with his vehicle and mobile phone. During interrogation, Sanket revealed that he was working with his friend Pranay Bajare (25), also a resident of Ashirwad Nagar.

 

Pranay reportedly supplied the drugs to Sanket. While Sanket is now in police custody, the police have launched a search operation to track down Pranay. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and Sanket was presented in court on Sunday. The court has remanded him to police custody till July 15 for further investigation. The operation was carried out under by Sr Police Inspector Yunus Mulani, API Jadhav, PSI Malhari Doifode, Nulgundawar, and constables Sagar, Dhawan, Vaibhav, Dalit, Sumedh, Pawan Malkhede, and Kamalkishore.
