The Bhopal Crime Branch has successfully arrested a female ganja (cannabis) peddler involved in the illicit drug trade. The accused was found in possession of 1 kg 428 grams of ganja, with an estimated market value of approximately Rs 15,000. Bhopal Police are maintaining a strict vigil on the illegal drug trade.
A case has been registered against the accused under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, and investigations are underway. Interrogation of the accused regarding the ganja is ongoing.
Preliminary information suggests that the accused would procure ganja at cheap rates and then sell it in small quantities in Bhopal. Police are currently gathering information from the accused about other potential traffickers. Under the directives of Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra and Additional Police Commissioner Bhopal Pankaj Srivastava, a campaign has been launched to control crime and apprehend criminals in the city. In this regard, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Akhil Patel, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailendra Singh Chauhan, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sujit Tiwari, Crime Branch Police Station In-charge Ashok Maravi and his team were deployed to track down illicit drug traffickers.
Acting on a tip-off, information was received that a woman was sitting with a white bag containing ganja, waiting for a customer, near the under-construction building behind VIP Guest House, under Shahjahanabad police station, Bhopal.
As the information was reliable, senior officials were informed, and the team proceeded to the specified location. There, a woman matching the informant’s description was found sitting with a white bag. She was surrounded and taken into custody. Upon questioning, she identified herself as Sudha Shriwas (wife of Santosh Shriwas), aged 50, residing at House Number H 1937, Housing Board Colony, Peele Quarter, Nishatpura Police Station, Bhopal. A search of the bag revealed a brownish-grey substance with a strong odour, which was identified as ganja.
