AIIMS Bhopal launches specialised ACT Clinic, playroom for child cancer survivors

 

 

 

AIIMS Bhopal has taken a significant step toward improving the quality of life for childhood cancer survivors by launching a specialized Pediatric after Completion of Therapy ACT clinic. This initiative focuses on addressing long-term health concerns faced by survivors even after successful treatment. Nearly 80% of children diagnosed with cancer survive and go on to lead normal lives when provided with timely and comprehensive care. AIIMS Bhopal already offers holistic cancer care for children, including accurate diagnosis, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery. Many children who have completed treatment are now living healthy lives.

 

However, recovery does not mark the end of their journey, as survivors often experience challenges related to growth, development, hormonal balance, heart health, neurological issues, and emotional well-being. To address these concerns, the ACT clinic brings together a multidisciplinary team consisting of a pediatric oncologist, endocrinologist, cardiologist, neurodevelopment specialist, psycho-oncologist, nutritionist, physiotherapist, social worker, and teacher. The Department of Anatomy will coordinate this holistic support, ensuring care during both treatment and follow-up phases. This integrated approach aims to help children not only survive cancer but thrive afterward. Ajai Singh also inaugurated a modern, well-equipped playroom in the paediatric ward, supported by Cankids-Kidscan, an organisation dedicated to improving childhood cancer care.

 

This therapeutic space is designed to offer comfort and joy to kids undergoing treatment for cancer and chronic illnesses, providing them with moments of happiness amid their medical challenges.
