City also bags prestigious 7-Star Garbage-Free City Rating, Water Plus City certification and 2nd rank in Safaimitra Surakshit Shehar category
In a historic moment for the city, Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has been ranked 5th in the country in Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, marking a significant leap from its 13th position last year. The city has also been awarded a prestigious 7-Star Garbage-Free City Rating, Water Plus City certification and secured 2nd rank in Safaimitra Surakshit Shehar (SSS) category, establishing itself as one of the cleanest and most sustainable urban hubs in India.
The awards were conferred in a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, Minister of State Tokhan Sahu, Secretary Shreenivas R Katikithala and Joint Secretary Rupa Mishra, on Thursday.
Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh, Municipal Commissioner Preeti Yadav, Nodal Officer Sambhav Ayachi, Health Officer Ankita Burman and Assistant Nodal Officer Abhinav Mishra received the awards on behalf of the city.
Mayor Singh expressed immense pride over the achievement, calling it a landmark moment in the city’s history.
“For the first time, Jabalpur has appeared in the top 5 cleanest cities in the country among
cities with a population of over 10 lakh. Achieving a 7-star rating and Water Plus certification together is a rare feat,” he stated. Municipal Commissioner Preeti Yadav apprised of detailed statistics, saying Jabalpur scored 11,989 out of a total 12,005 points, translating to a remarkable 96% score. The city achieved 9,489 out of 10,000 in Swachh Survekshan, 1,300 out of 1,300 in Garbage-Free City rating, 1,200 out of 1,200 in ODF (Open Defecation Free) category. She said this level of performance, near perfect in every category, speaks volumes of the untiring effort put in by the Municipal Corporation team and residents of Jabalpur. She further acknowledged the essential role of public participation, expressing gratitude to residents for their positive cooperation and appealed for continued support in future cleanliness drives.
FROM 3-STAR TO 7-STAR: A REMARKABLE JOURNEY
The transformation of Jabalpur’s cleanliness profile, from a
3-star city to a 7-star rated Garbage-Free City and a leap from 13th to 5th rank was lauded as a milestone achievement for the JMC’s leadership. Both the Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner reaffirmed their commitment to pushing Jabalpur towards Rank 1 in future editions of the survey.
