THE United States has officially stated now what India has been insisting upon from the beginning -- that The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), is a terror organisation. This designation by the United States only endorses what India has been saying for long. An official statement issued by the US Department of State now has stated unambiguously that TRF was behind the Pahalgam terror attack in which terrorists had targeted only Hindu males by asking them straight questions about their religious faith. This should be considered a major development in the global fight against terrorism across countries.
It needs to be recalled here that on April 22, 2025, terrorists belonging to the TRF had attacked unsuspecting tourists at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir and killed only men with Hindu faith. That terror attack had triggered what got known to be “Operation Sindoor” launched by the Indian security forces in possibly the best known strike-back in global history. The tech-driven “Operation Sindoor” proved to be very effective and was hailed by the world for its precision and non-escalatory approach. Later, India declared officially that it had achieved its stated targets and did not stray from its chosen trajectory even by an inch. India later also announced proudly that the “Operation Sindoor” did not allow any damage on the Indian side and that foreign media was only heaping biased falsehood on the world accusing that India suffered much damage in Pakistani’s retaliation.
When the Pahalgam attack took place, The Resistance Front had accepted the responsibility of the act. Having ascertained the details, now the US Department of State has designated TRF as a terrorist organisation -- thus endorsing what India has been insisting upon since the beginning.
This designation will have a significant effect on the global considerations on terrorism and may have a bearing on the action various countries would undertake to keep terror at bay.
For decades, India has been pushing for concerted global action against terrorism. Many countries, including the United States, have accepted the Indian stand and have taken appropriate measures in support. Despite that, many countries are known to have taken selective approach to tackling terrorism officially. Even in this particular instance, India was not quite sure if the US would ever designate TRF as a terrorist organisation. However, the evidence against TRF was so decisive that the US administration could not reject the Indian argument.
This is no mean an achievement on the part of India and its aggressive diplomacy against terrorism. For, the US Administration has realised the correctness of the Indian stand and has then designated TRF as terror outfit. At the level of the United Nations, as well, India has registered certain successful campaigns against terrorists and their groups. Some countries often oppose the Indian stand, all right. But the overall performance of Indian diplomacy on this issue has been lauded by the world in general. China has been one country that has not accepted the Indian approach to terrorism. In the case of Pahalgam attack, Beijing has not still condemned that dastardly act, nor has it accepted that India was the sufferer of terrorism from time to time. Such instances have been rare as the world at large has accepted the Indian stand on the issue.
