SLP filed over PNST-2022 admissions delay; future of over 60,000 aspirants in limbo

A total of 109 nursing students from the State have filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP No. 25984/2025) in the Supreme Court of India, challenging the decision of Madhya Pradesh High Court regarding Pre-Nursing Selection Test (PNST)-2022. The petition, filed with the support of the Indian National Students’ Organisation (NSUI) and the Congress party, seeks immediate intervention in the long-pending admission process to government nursing colleges in the State. PNST-2022 exam, conducted by Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (ESB/Vyapam) in June 2023, had its results stayed by the High Court. Although the stay was lifted and the results were released following a court order on March 27, 2024, no counselling or admission process has commenced since, leaving thousands of nursing seats vacant for the academic session 2022–23.

NSUI State Vice President Ravi Parmar confirmed that the SLP was filed against the High Court’s order, terming it as a fight for justice for over 60,000 nursing aspirants. Senior advocate Varun Chopra will be representing the petitioners in the apex court. District NSUI President Akshay Tomar highlighted that the students had appealed at every level from the High Court to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministerbut received no resolution. Student petitioner Ravina Suryavanshi said, “We waited for two years for the result. When it was finally declared, the government did not begin the counselling. This delay is jeopardizing our careers, and we have now approached the Supreme Court in search of justice.” The petition names several parties including the Government of Madhya Pradesh, Directorate of Medical Education, Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University, Indian Nursing Council, ESB, and the Private Nursing College Association. Ravi Parmar added, “The inaction of the state authorities has left thousands of futures hanging. We are confident the Supreme Court will deliver justice and uphold the rights of the students.”
