Family alleges cover-up, questions Meghalaya SIT probe integrity amid bail to co-accused

Sonam Raghuwanshi honeymoon murder case has taken a fresh turn, with the victim’s brother Vipin Raghuwanshi reiterating his demand for a CBI investigation, citing serious lapses in ongoing probe and a leaked jail phone call that he claims exposes the accused’s continued influence from behind the bars. Vipin has alleged that Sonam, who is currently in judicial custody for allegedly plotting the murder of her husband Raja during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, was heard speaking to her brother and other family members in the audio clip despite being under arrest. The phone recording, reportedly captured by a journalist, has raised serious questions over the monitoring of undertrial prisoners and has prompted the family to allege a larger conspiracy and institutional failure.

Further concerns have been raised after one of the co-accused, Silone James, was recently granted bail by a lower court in Meghalaya. The bail has sparked outrage among Raja’s family members, who fear it could lead to the destruction of evidence or influence over key witnesses. Vipin has accused Meghalaya SIT of overlooking vital leads and not acting on digital evidence in time. The family has submitted a fresh plea in Shillong High Court, urging narco-analysis tests on the accused and is demanding that the case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation to ensure neutrality and justice. The case, which initially appeared to be a straightforward contract killing, is now revealing multiple layers of deceit, emotional manipulation and possible misuse of institutional gaps. As public pressure builds, all eyes are on whether the Central Government will intervene and transfer the investigation to CBI for an independent and comprehensive probe.
