The new project is estimated to cost Rs 159.13 crore
The bhoomipujan ceremony for the construction of the new MLAs’ Rest House Complex was held today at Arera Hills in the presence of Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and State Legislative Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar. The event marked the beginning of a modern residential project that aims to provide fully-equipped housing facilities to legislators.
Also present at the ceremony were Parliamentary Affairs and Urban Administration Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, PWD Minister Rakesh Singh, Water Resources Minister Tulsi Silawat, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Vishwas Sarang, Backward Class Welfare Minister Krishna Gaur, along with several MLAs and senior dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar noted that the existing MLAs’ Rest House was originally built in 1958 and had completed 67 years of service.
He said that the building had become structurally outdated and lacked basic modern facilities. “This new complex will not only be beneficial for legislators but also for the general public who come to meet them,” he said.
Tomar highlighted that the State Government approved the
construction of 102 new flats for MLAs in a Cabinet decision 10 months ago. These will be built in place of the old family quarters and shopping complex, which will be dismantled. The project is estimated to cost Rs 159.13 crore. Each legislator’s residence will span approximately 2,600 square feet, comprising three bedrooms, a drawing room, kitchen, modern washrooms, and dedicated spaces for office work, private staff, and PSOs. The new accommodations will be fully furnished and fitted with modern amenities. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav congratulated the Speaker and legislators on the launch of the project, acknowledging the need to modernise the decades-old structures.
He stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is achieving significant growth in all sectors, and Madhya Pradesh is aligning its development vision accordingly. Referring to his recent foreign tour, he shared that investment proposals worth over Rs 11,000 crore have been received from Dubai and Spain.
Dr Yadav emphasised that the State is equally focused on industrial development, agricultural innovation and youth employment. He assured that the new rest house complex will be ready within 18 months and will set a new benchmark for legislative infrastructure. The event concluded with a commitment to transform the MP Assembly into a fully paperless e-Vidhan Sabha in the near future.
