PALAK Panchbudhe and Radha Hiwse gelled well to score baskets from all corners and guide Gurudeo Nagar Krida Mandal (GKM) to a comfortable 39-25 victory over Saraswati Kanya Sangh (SKS) in the 25th Prakash Rajurkar Memorial Inter-Club Junior District Basketball Championship at Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) Shankar Nagar court.
 
The match was played late on Monday night. With an all-win record, GKM emerged as the Pool D toppers and qualified for the quarter-finals. In the quarter-finals, GKM will square up against Nagpur Amateur Sports Association (NASA), who finished the league stage at the second position, on Wednesday at 7 pm. In the first quarter-final, Spartan girls will take on Phoenix at 6 pm. In the third quarter-final, SKS will play Nutan Bharat Yuwak Sangh (NBYS) at 8 pm. In their last league game, GKM girls took time to settle into their groove and won the first quarter 10-8. In the second quarter, GKM came up with a dominating display to blank SKS 9-0 and take a match taking an 11-point lead at the lemon break.
 
After the change of ends, SKS retained their momentum and both the teams scored seven points each in the third quarter. Though SKS tried their best in the last quarter but lost it 10-13 to lose the match by 14 points (25-39). For GKM, Palak Panchbudhe scored a game-high 18 points and Radha Hiwse contributed 11 points. For SKS, Janvi More top scored with 11 points and Anagha Dharme netted six points. In the low-scoring game, SKS edged out NSCA by six points (26-20) to confirm their berth in the quarter-finals behind GKM in Pool D. For SKS, Tanvi Telange (10) and Devika Thakre (7) played well while Nikalas Sports & Cultural Academy’s (NSCA) Sharvari Bhishma (9) did all the scoring for the losing cause. The quarterwise scores in SKS’s favour read 5-5, 3-0, 9-14, 9-1.
