Local lass Shweta Jaiswal Mishra, Senior Scientist at the Space Applications Centre (SAC), ISRO, Ahmedabad, received the coveted National Award for Women of Excellence in Geospatial Science & Technology at the National Geospatial Awards 2025 . This prestigious honour was bestowed on her during the Open Source GIS Day 2025 celebrations at IIT Bombay, in the distinguished presence of former ISRO Chairman AS Kiran Kumar. Shweta Jaiswal Mishra is daughter of Devendra Mohan Jaiswal, The Hitavada’ Correspondent of Nainpur . After completing her M.Tech. in Spatial Information Technology at Devi Ahilya University, Indore, she joined ISRO in 2010 and is currently part of SAC’s Geospatial Data Analytics & Web Services Group.
 
Her transformative contributions included - Renewable Energy Application for India, : A nationwide tool that maps solar potential using INSAT-3D/3DR satellite data, Solar Calculator: Initially built for India and later adapted for Mauritius, Oman and Papua New Guinea, strengthening global renewable-energy planning, Geospatial Energy Map of India: Developed with NITI Aayog, integrating disparate energy datasets onto a single interactive platform, Global Solar Calculator: Led development following the Prime Minister’s COP-26 pledge, advancing worldwide climate-action tools, Research highlights include deep-learning-based solar-insolation forecasting and automated detection of solar-power plants via high-resolution remote-sensing imagery, Urban-GIS initiatives such as the Ahmedabad City GIS Application and the Urban Sprawl Information System.
 
Shweta’s work has already earned her the SAC Shining Star Award (2024), Young Geospatial Scientist Award (2016) and ISRO Team Excellence Award (2013). The latest award recognises her unwavering commitment to harnessing space-based geospatial science for sustainable development and energy security. Speaking after the ceremony, Ms Shweta credited “the constant support from my family in Nainpur and the collaborative spirit at ISRO” for her success. The residents of Nainpur, her family members, well wishers, have expressed immense pride in her achievements and . wished her continued success in her pioneering scientific journey.
