Family dispute cited as the reason behind gruesome killing of 60-year-old Maya Paserkar
In a murder most foul, an elderly woman was killed in posh Civil Lines area of city on Wednesday. The deceased, a maid by profession, was slayed allegedly by her son-in-law by slitting her throat. The incident occurred near Jawahar Vasti Gruha on West High Court Road.
The police have cracked the case and arrested step-daughter of the deceased and her husband for the murder.
Prima facie, the police said, the elderly woman used to live in the area behind the MLA Hostel. She was eking out livelihood by working as maid in houses in Civil Lines. The CCTV footage reveals a person stalking her. The incident occurred around 1.30 pm.
The elderly woman’s body lay on a footpath in front of Indira Convent in pool of blood, triggering sensation on the busy road stretch. As police reached the spot after being informed by the Control Room, they cordoned off the area. Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy also inspected the crime spot.
“The mobile handset of the deceased provided the much-needed clue to crack the case,” said Senior Police Inspector Vitthalsingh Rajput of Sitabuldi Police Station. Prior to that the woman’s younger son reached the spot on being alerted about the incident. He identified her as his mother Maya Paserkar (60). According to police, Maya was walking down the road towards Law College Square when someone came from behind and slashed her neck. A sharp weapon was used by the assailant with which he cut her neck causing rupturing of the artery.
Senior police officers reached the spot and supervised the scanning of surrounding area to pick up some clues.
Maya was third wife of Madan Paserkar, and he had three children, including Geeta who was also married twice but got separated. She was currently married to Mustafa. The Paserkar family was living in a 800 sq ft house which was in Maya’s name and Geeta and her husband were eyeing to usurp the same and planned the murder, it is alleged.
Cellphone gives cops clue to crack case
Sr PI Vitthalsingh Rajput, talking to The Hitavada, said that on scanning Maya Paserkar’s mobile it revealed repeated calls from her step-daughter Geeta. She was picked up
for questioning where Geeta denied making the calls which added to the suspicion. On sustained questioning, she revealed about the role of her husband, Mustafa in killing her mother.
The cops also learnt that Maya had opposed Geeta's decision to tie knot with Mustafa and she had also lent latter Rs 5 lakh about which dispute was going on between them.
Meanwhile during interrogation, Mustafa claimed to have admitted to his role in the murder, said the police. Mustafa claimed he murdered Maya in a fit of rage. The cops are trying to ascertain whether property dispute could also be one of the reason for the killing.
