Crater on Shahid Gowari flyover

Staff Reporter :

In the middle of this monsoon season, majority of roads in city turn into a death trap for commuters as potholes, uneven paver blocks, metallic particles on roads lead to road accidents almost every day. Shahid Gowari Flyover in Sitabuldi area is also a perfect example of such death trap for commuters. A huge crater has formed in the middle of the road on the flyover near Mor Bhavan, compelling commuters to avoid that patch for any bumpy ride. Thanks to free movement of heavy vehicles on the flyover, the crater has developed and soon, more such potholes may form in coming days if the heavy vehicle movement is not controlled.

Many other flyovers in city now have potholes, which have caused many road accidents in the past and still, such incidents are taking place. The damaged roads throughout the city cause accidents daily. Skidding of vehicles due to presence of metal on roads is very common during this monsoon season. Instead of addressing such issues, the administration is tight-lipped.

Accidents due to uneven paver blocks in various parts of the city is also a major cause of road accidents. In many parts of the city, newly-constructed cement roads have one side paved with cement blocks and the other with concrete leading to death traps. In this monsoon period, such roads, specially the paver block ones, get misaligned, leading to avoidable mishaps. Despite pointing out issues by local newspapers, the situation of city roads remains the same.
