Nagpur city is on track for a major boost in public transport infrastructure with the construction of a state-of-the-art new bus terminus at Ganeshpeth soon. Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), in association with the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), is constructing 10 new bus platforms with modern infrastructure in the existing premises. As per the information received from senior officials, this joint project is costing around Rs 13 crore and 80% work is already complete. Officials expect that the remaining work will be completed by September. Designed to ease congestion and improve the overall passenger experience, the new bus stand will have 10 platforms, allowing 10 buses to operate simultaneously on a single platform. The facility is being developed with a strong focus on commuter convenience and modern amenities. A fully equipped control room will manage daily operations, ensuring smoother co-ordination and communication. Even the new buses, including the electric ones, will also be handled from this new control room.

For the comfort of mothers, a dedicated feeding room has been planned. The premises will also include toilet blocks for men, women, and differently-abled persons, providing better sanitation access for all. Passenger comfort has been further enhanced with the provision of drinking water machines, seating benches, and clean waiting areas. Importantly, the plan also includes restrooms for drivers and conductors, acknowledging the long hours they spend on duty and providing them a space to rest. To support commercial activity, designated areas are being created for shops within the bus stand premises. An electric meter room is also part of the design, laying the groundwork for future needs such as electric bus infrastructure, informed the officer.

Located at Ganeshpeth, the new bus stand is expected to decongest existing bus depots and serve as a central point for inter-city and State transport services. As Nagpur emerges as a major urban centre and logistics hub, such infrastructure becomes essential for sustainable urban mobility. Once completed, the Ganeshpeth bus stand will not only meet the city’s current needs, but also serve as a model for future MSRTC projects, combining functionality with passenger-friendly features.
