A man carrying a country-made pistol (Desi Katta) and two live bullets was caught at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport on Friday night, which created a tense situation.
The accused, Anil Shrikrishna Porad (36), is a resident of Yavatmal and holds the post of president of the Tribal Cell of a political party. He had come to the airport to board a flight to Delhi around 9 pm.
As per Sonegaon Police, the accused placed his luggage on the security scanner. During the check, airport security staff noticed a suspicious object in his bag. They stopped the scanner and opened the bag in front of him. To their shock, they found a pistol and two live cartridges inside.
Airport authorities immediately informed the Sonegaon Police Station. Night duty officer PSI Chandu Gharpure and
Porad was questioned on the spot by the police, but he failed to explain why he was carrying a firearm. He was then taken to the police station for further inquiry.
Till late night, police officers were busy questioning him and registering a case under relevant sections. The matter is being treated as a serious security breach.
Further investigation is underway to find out his real intentions and how he managed to bring the firearm to the airport despite strict security rules.
