The monsoon has once again picked up pace in entire state, including Jabalpur. In views of the prevailing conditions, the weather department has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall alerts across the state. Jabalpur and 18 other districts are under an orange alert for very heavy rainfall, while another 18 districts have been warned of heavy showers. On Friday, the city witnessed overcast skies throughout the day with intermittent rainfall. Jabalpur has so far recorded around 26 inches of rain this season. Following heavy rainfall in the catchment area, the Bargi Dam authorities increased the water release from the dam, on Friday.
 
It will further increase river Narmada’s water level upto 4 feet. A sudden change in weather conditions across the state occurred due to the presence of five active weather systems and the strengthening monsoon. The weather department has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours in divisions including Jabalpur, Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Rewa, Sagar, Shahdol, Ujjain and Gwalior. Parts of Rewa and Shahdol divisions may experience extremely heavy rain, with rainfall expected to reach up to 8.5 inches within 24 hours.
 
Between June 1 and July 23, the state has received 49 percent more rainfall than the seasonal average, with the eastern region recording a 65 percent surplus and the western region 34 percent above average. Districts placed under orange alert for very heavy rain include Jabalpur, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Narsinghpur, Damoh, Balaghat, Mandla, Dindori, Katni, Satna, Maihar, Rewa, Sidhi and Singrauli. The prevailing monsoon trough currently stretches from Sri Ganganagar (Rajasthan) to the Bay of Bengal, passing through Sirsa,
 
Meerut, Hardoi, Patna, Jamshedpur and Digha. A low-pressure area also persists over the central Bay of Bengal, accompanied by a cyclonic circulation in the upper air, tilted towards the southwest. Another trough runs from southern Chhattisgarh to the Bay of Bengal, linked to the low-pressure system. Apart from that, cyclonic circulations are present over eastern Uttar Pradesh and southwestern Rajasthan in the upper air. These systems has once again triggered rainfall activities in the region.
