In a significant move towards transforming Jabalpur into a major tourism hub, State Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh held an important meeting with senior officials in the State capital on Wednesday to chart out detailed plans for several key projects related to the city. Speaking on the occasion, Singh said that as per Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav’s announcement, the Sanskardhani, known for its rich cultural and historical heritage will now step into a new era of tourism development. A comprehensive plan is being prepared to transform Thakurtal area, located in the Madan Mahal hills into an “Eminent Tourism Hub.”

The ambitious project will include a Forest Safari - Zoo cum Rescue Centre and integrated development of the historic Sangram Sagar Lake. Minister Singh stated that to give the project a deeper cultural significance, Chief Minister Yadav has announced that it will be developed after the name of the legendary queen Veerangana Rani Durgavati. Expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister, Singh added that the tourism project will spread in about 85 to 100 hectares, offering a blend of natural wildlife experiences and modern amenities. Major attractions include a Robotic Interpretation Centre, Butterfly Park and a “Long Carnival” featuring exotic animals such as Yellow Tigers, White Tigers, Panthers, Lions and Bears. A special reptile house for crocodiles and snakes, along with dedicated zones for exotic and native birds, zebras and giraffes are also proposed.

Other modern amenities include a Water Interpretation Centre and species-specific interpretation areas. To enhance the adventure aspect, the entire zone from Sangram Sagar Lake to Thakurtal will be connected via trekking routes, ziplining and boating facilities. The project will also offer serene experiences such as forest bathing and panoramic view-points in the Thakurtal region. Minister Singh informed that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be finalised within the next three months, after which on-ground development work will commence. He emphasised that the initiative will not only place Jabalpur on the global tourism map but will also generate employment opportunities, promote environmental conservation and preserve the city’s cultural legacy.
