BVM boys girls clinch crowns

BHAVAN’S Bhagwandas Purohit Vidya Mandir Civil Lines boys and Trimurti Nagar girls clinched crowns in the Global Inter-School Chess Competition jointly hosted by Global Indian International School (GIIS), Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation and Chess Association Nagpur at the former’s campus in Lava, Khadgaon Road, on Sunday. BVM boys, represented by Siddharth Bang, Harsh Lahoti, Chirag Lahoti and Gritav Shahane won the Best Boys School Trophy with a score of 23 points while CPS Katol finished as Second Best School with 21 points. In the Girls Group, BVM Trimurti Nagar represented by Garima Upadhayay, Ojasvi Poharkar, Jeeviak Ramteke and Anvika Ghodeswar won the Best School Trophy with 23 points while CIPS Kapsi stood second with 21 points to their credit. The Best school trophies were declared on the basis of score of top performers of school.
 
Yugant Ramteke was best scorer in the boys group whereas Garima was the top player in girls group. Over 243 players participated in five age groups: Under-15, 13, 11, 9, and 7. Girls category saw 67 participants, including 38 FIDE registered players and 13 internationally rated players, while the boys category witnessed a strong turn-out of 176 participants, with 93 FIDE registered players and 54 internationally rated players. The tournament was conducted in Rapid format with a 15-minute base time and 10-second increment per move. Prizes were distributed at the hands of chief guest SS Soman, Superintendent, Central GST & Working President of Chess Association Nagpur. Nidhi Gupta, Principal GIIS Nagpur presided over. Bhushan Shriwas, Organising Secretary & Secretary Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation, and Chief Arbiter FA Shiva Iyer were prominently present on the occasion.
