The campus of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Central Jail apparently charged with mixed emotions as a special meeting was held to commemorate the festival of Raksha Bandhan on Saturday. The special meeting, organized under the direction of Jail Superintendent Akhilesh Tomar, was designed to allow prisoners and undertrials to meet with their sisters and mothers amid tight security. The brothers-sisters relished their eternal bond by tying Rakhis while the other members of the family blessed them. Others were seen having tears in their eyes expressing the pain of separation due to imprisonment. To ensure safety and security arrangements, the jail administration provided special packages having Rakhi, sweets, kumkum and fruits to the prisoners through the jail canteen.

To facilitate the special meeting, the jail administration made various arrangements including drinking water, medical assistance and even wheelchairs for elderly or sick ones. Security protocols were also a key consideration, with specific duties assigned to various jail officers and employees to maintain order throughout the event. The meeting drew a substantial number of visitors, with approximately 3,707 mothers and sisters, along with 1,015 children, traveling to the facility.

These family members met with 1,561 male prisoners and undertrials, performing traditional Rakhi rituals such as applying kumkum tilak, tying the Rakhi, and offering sweets. The event also featured a symbolic element where the prisoners made a pledge to abandon negative behaviors. Additionally, 27 female prisoners were able to tie Rakhis to their brothers who were also incarcerated at the facility.

In total, 1,588 male and female prisoners celebrated the festivities, with a collective attendance of 4,722 family members. The successful organization of the event was attributed to the cooperation of the jail staff, police administration and others. Those who rendered remarkable contribution in the successful event included Jail Doctor, Dr. Laxman Shah, Jail Deputy Superintendent, Madan Kamlesh, Jail Deputy Superintendent, Yashwant Singh Manjhi, Jail Deputy Superintendent, Ganesh Singh and Jail Deputy Superintendent, Rupali Mishra along with other assistant jail superintendents and staff members.
