It is time for Dr Deshmukh to return to India, his guidance is essential for the nation’s healthcare needs,” expressed Banwarilal Purohit, former Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, who was present as the chief guest during the Sahasra Chandra Darshan ceremony of Dr Subhash Deshmukh held on Sunday at Shrimant Baburao Dhanwate Sabhagruh. In celebration of the 81st birthday of Dr Deshmukh, a Nagpur-born doctor settled in the United States for over five decades, his friends in Nagpur organised the ceremony. Dr Vedprakash Mishra, Chief Advisor of Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Karad, presided over the function.

Also present were Dr Girish Gandhi, Trustee, VANRAI, and Shriram Kale, Naresh Arsade and Nilesh Khandekar. In his welcome address, Dr Girish Gandhi introduced the gathering to the life and work of Dr Deshmukh, following which the latter was felicitated in the presence of all dignitaries. Speaking on the occasion, Purohit lauded the way Dr Deshmukh upheld the Indian values of hard work and service even while living abroad. Purohit expressed the hope that Dr Deshmukh would now return to his motherland, and also conveyed his willingness to help establish a multispeciality hospital for him. Purohit further recalled the familial bonds he shared with Dr Deshmukh. Dr Vedprakash Mishra reflected on the symbolic essence of the occasion.

“When an umbilical cord is cut at birth, the child becomes an independent being. But, the umbilical bond with motherland can never be broken, should never be broken, and no one has the right to break it,” he said. Dr Mishra explained the concept of Sahasra Chandra Darshan, a milestone reached after witnessing a thousand full moons, which corresponds to about 80 years and seven months of life. Dr Mishra also said the moon, along with symbolising life’s dynamism, also represents calmness. “After the Sahasra Chandra Darshan, a person enters a phase of reflection on three things gratitude, selflessness, and service to others,” he noted. Dr Subhash Deshmukh briefly addressed the gathering and expressed gratitude to all present. The gathering also saw the presence of several members from his close-knit circle, including Baburao Tidke, Bal Kulkarni, Ramesh Borkute, Prem Lunawat, Prakash Itankar, Mahesh Bang, Prakash Nagpure, Sanjay Dargan, and Dr Suresh Ninawe, among others.
