With no other option, Amit tied his wife’s body to the back of his motorcycle and started riding towards his village. The incident took place on August 10 on Nagpur-Jabalpur National Highway. Yadav from Lonara village in Nagpur district, was travelling with his wife, Gyarasibai, towards Karanpur village in Seoni district, Madhya Pradesh. The journey, meant to be a simple road trip on the day of Raksha Bandhan, turned into a tragedy when an unknown truck hit their motorcycle near Morphata, just before the Madhya Pradesh border. The impact threw the woman off the bike and she came under the truck’s wheels. Sustaining griveous injuries, she breathed her last on the spot.. Amit escaped with no major injuries and even the motorcycle was not badly damaged. The truck driver fled the spot without stopping.

Helpless cries for help ignored Amit shouted for help from motorists and truck drivers passing along the highway. He asked them to help take his wife’s body back home. Despite clearly seeing and hearing him, no one stopped. Vehicles kept moving and ignored the desperate man standing beside his wife’s lifeless body. It left Amit with no choice. In complete helplessness, he used whatever means he had to tie his wife’s body to the back of his motorcycle.

A lonely ride back Amit began riding towards his home in Lonara, with his wife’s body secured to the bike. People on the road were shocked to see this disturbing sight. Some tried to stop him, but fearing delays or being left stranded again, Amit refused to stop and kept going. The unusual sight caught the attention of the Highway police. They followed Amit and managed to stop him before Deolapar village. When they heard his story, the officers were left stunned by both the tragedy and the apathy shown by passersby. The police took custody of the woman’s body and completed the required legal procedures. They sent the body to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. Amit was taken to the police station for questioning.
