Allegations of seed and fertiliser irregularities; Farmers demand action against society manager

TRAFFIC on Jaijaipur–Hasoud road in Sakti district came to a grinding halt on Monday as farmers from Odekerha village staged a blockade against the local co-operative society manager, accusing him of mismanagement in seed and fertiliser distribution. The protesters alleged that in-charge manager Gais Ram Banjare repeatedly failed to ensure timely delivery, forcing farmers to wait for hours during the sowing season, often returning with incomplete or no stock. They said these chronic delays have caused mounting financial stress year after year. Farmers also alleged the manager of humiliating those who raised complaints.

“We have endured this for long, but persistent apathy and disrespect have left us no choice but to protest,” said one of the agitating cultivators. Barely a fortnight ago, the farmers had submitted a written complaint to the Collector’s office, but with no action taken, they escalated their agitation. The blockade left buses, trucks, and private vehicles stranded for several kilometres, disrupting routine movement and causing inconvenience to passengers on the busy stretch. The protesters have demanded the immediate removal of the society manager and a transparent system for distribution, warning that the agitation will intensify if their concerns are not addressed.
