House adjourned till Monday over demand to oust Minister Shah

Following the strong protest by Congress Legislature Party demanding the dismissal of Minister Vijay Shah, who had made derogatory remarks against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, the Speaker adjourned the House till Monday. “The silence of the Government on the Vijay Shah case proves that ministers and vote bank are more important to them than patriotism,” said LoP Umang Singhar On the fifth day of the Monsoon Session of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the Congress Legislature Party, led by Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, held a strong protest in the House demanding the dismissal of Tribal Affairs and Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Shah. Minister Vijay Shah is accused of publicly insulting the Army and Colonel Sofia Qureshi, but despite this, no action has been taken by the government so far. As soon as the proceedings of the session began, the Congress MLAs raised the demand to remove Vijay Shah from the ministerial post.
 
When the Opposition was not given an opportunity to speak on this subject, all the opposition MLAs sat on a dharna inside the House. When the proceedings resumed after a walkout from the House, the Congress MLAs remained adamant on their demand. Due to the Opposition’s unrelenting stance, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House till Monday. In a conversation with the media, Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar said, “The insult of the Army and a woman Colonel is not a trivial issue.
 
Vijay Shah’s statement is not only an insult to the disciplined Army, but also hurts the sentiments of the entire country. But the government is continuously protecting him.” He said that Vijay Shah was present in the House today and the Government’s silence proves that ministers and vote banks are more important to them than patriotism. “Congress will not back down on this issue under any circumstances, and the struggle will continue until Vijay Shah is dismissed.” He stated that Congress stands firmly on every issue related to the country’s Army and honour. On replying over the toxic waste inceneration doubts in the House, Minister Vijay Shah claimed safe completion of the process of Union Carbide toxic waste at Pithampur and assured that no adverse effect was reported, on Friday in the House.
 
“None of the chemicals have affected the groundwater quality, as the ash/residue generated from the incineration of Union Carbide waste has been packed in jumbo bags and stored in waterproof storage by M/s Pithampur India Digital Weighing Material Private Limited, Pithampur, as per the guidelines of the Central Pollution Control Board,” Tribal Affairs and Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Shah stated in the Assembly, replying to a query by MLA Neena Verma regarding the monitoring of adverse effects on groundwater due to the incineration of the waste. To assess any possibility of harmful effects in the future, there is a provision for monitoring the water supply for 30 years. Earlier in the day, Congress Legislature Party staged demonstration in the Assembly premises over fertiliser crisis. Congress claimed that the continuously deepening of fertiliser crisis in the State has resulted in huge problems being faced by the farmers. This demonstration was led by Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar. Members of the Congress Legislature Party reached the Assembly with empty sacks of fertiliser and symbolic bottles of ‘nano fertiliser’ and raised questions on the anti-farmer policies of the Government.
