Sanskardhani witnessed a lively and enthusiastic ‘Swachhta Mahotsav’ with great festive fervour across every corner on Friday. Streets sparkled like Deepotsav (festival of lights), adorned with colourful rangolis and decorative balloons while the message of cleanliness resonated through symbolic acts and collective citizen participation. From dawn to dusk, Jabalpur echoed with the spirit of cleanliness, as students, youth, professionals and senior citizens came out in large numbers, joining hands to strengthen the mission of a clean and beautiful city.
 
Festivities began early in the morning at Gaurighat, where public representatives, accompanied by senior officials and citizens, offered prayers and a chunari to Maa Narmada, praying for continuous success of ‘Mission Swachh Jabalpur’ and the city’s prosperity.
 
They were joined by lawyers, doctors, public representatives, students and citizens, took up brooms and led the symbolic cleanliness drive. Over 50,000 pledge forms were signed by citizens, reaffirming their commitment to make Jabalpur the number one city of the county in cleanliness. People from all walks of life joined hands, took oaths and participated in large numbers across various places in the city. Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh, Municipal Commissioner Preeti Yadav administered cleanliness pledge to school and college students.
 
Thousands of dignitaries and residents participated in these events. Citizens travelling in Metro buses also took part in the celebrations, with special announcements encouraging passengers to take the cleanliness pledge, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and collective resolve. Adding to the festive cheer, local businesses and retail outlets offered discounts ranging from 5 per cent to 12 per cent on the occasion. Hotels, jewellery shops, furniture outlets and builder offices witnessed heavy customer footfall as people seized the opportunity to celebrate the event with festive shopping. Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor expressed gratitude to citizens, calling them ‘divine contributors’ to Jabalpur’s achievement of securing 5th rank nationally among 4,589 urban local bodies in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25. Municipal Commissioner Yadav reiterated that the festival was not just a celebration but a platform to further promote cleanliness awareness and appreciate the dedicated efforts of sanitation workers and officials.
