EOW arrests 2 PHE Deptt officials while accepting Rs 24,000 bribe

 

 

 

For release of the final bill payment of Rs 2,47,000, the accused demanded 5% each as a bribe  

 

Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Jabalpur, caught two officials of the Public Health Engineering Department red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 24,000, on Wednesday. The accused have been identified as Sharad Kumar Singh, Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering Department, Jabalpur and Vikas Patel, Senior Accounts Clerk, Public Health Engineering Department, Jabalpur. According to EOW Jabalpur, applicant named Rohit Baroliya (25), son of Hargovind Baroliya, resident of Seetanagar village, Patharia tehsil in Damoh district lodged a complaint that he had undertaken hand pump maintenance contract in the Sihaura block during 2022–2023. For the release of the final bill payment of Rs 2,47,000, the accused officials allegedly demanded 5% each as a bribe.

 

A total of Rs 24,000 was demanded. On Wednesday, both accused Executive Engineer Sharad Kumar Singh and Senior Accounts Clerk Vikas Patel were caught red-handed while accepting the bribe at Office of the Executive Engineer, Public Health Engineering Department, Damohnaka. EOW Jabalpur has registered a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (Amended 2018) while further investigation is underway. The trap was conducted by team led by DSP, Swarnjeet Singh Dhami comprised of Inspector Prerna Pandey, Inspector Gayatri Gupta, SI, Bodhan Lal Tiwari, Head Constable Abhinav Thakur, Constable Sheikh Nadeem, Constable Sumit Pandey and Constable Sagir Khan.
