NAGPUR Municipal Corporation (NMC) is mulling to establish first-ever four ‘theme-based’ gardens to increase green cover of the city and attract more visitors to them. NMC is working on seting up four such gardens -- Cactus Garden, Rock Garden, Adventure Park and Happiness Park -- by renovating four existing gardens. As per the latest development, the civic body has already given approval for Adventure Park at Lata Mangeshkar Garden, located in Surya Nagar. For this theme garden, NMC has estimated a cost of Rs 8.79 crore for the project. The plan comes with the dual goal of promoting outdoor recreation while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of Nagpur under the smart city initiatives. Of the total Rs 8.79 crore budget, Rs 4.58 crore is allocated for civil and landscaping work, including pathways, fencing, lawns, decorative plantations, and utility infrastructure such as ticket counters, smart toilets, and office rooms. Rs 4.20 crore will be spent on setting up adventure-specific equipment.

The project is fast-tracked and will soon move into the tendering phase, officials confirmed. Zip Line (Single Rope One-Way), Adventure Play Station, Low Rope Course, Climbing Wall with Equipment, Rappelling Wall with Gear, Sky Cycling (Double Bicycle Ropeway), Sky Roller (Double) with Equipment, Bungee Ejection with Operational Gear, Suspension Bridge, Canopy Walks, Burma Bridge, Trampoline Park and Soft Play Area etc. will be the major attractions of the upcoming Adventure Park. “We have identified Barbate Udyan in Lakadganj area for the Cactus Garden and Suyog Nagar garden for establishing Rock Garden in the city.

Whereas, garden identification for the Happiness Park is yet to be done,” said Ganesh Rathod, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Garden Department to The Hitavada. According to Rathod, NMC is taking help of an architect for identifying number of cactus species which will be planted in Barbate Udyan for the theme park. “These gardens will be renovated as per their themes. The gardens will also help to educate visitors about species of cactus and variety of rocks with information boards,” said Rathod. This initiative is being hailed as a game-changer for Nagpur’s entertainment and urban beautification efforts. With formal approvals in place, construction is set to begin soon, bringing a new dimension of recreation to the city.
