NMC notifies Prabhag map Aspirants start poll preparations

 

 

The stage is getting set for the civic polls as Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) notified the Prabhag boundaries that mirror the 2017 formation, one that introduced the multi-member system of representation. As per directive of State Election Commission, the civic body put out the Prabhag boundaries giving a peek into the 4-member representation system. Although it was expected that due to rise in number of voters the Prabhag boundaries might gets skewed from the earlier map, but the political pundits after studying the map said no changes are seen. There would be in all 38 Prabhag that are bifurcated to elect 151 corporators.

 

Of them, 37 Prabhags will have to elect 4 members while the last one, Prabhag 38 will have only 3 members. Each of the Prabhag will have population of around 60 to 62,000 on average. The same system was in vogue in year 2017 for constituting the House. Political observers noticed that some changes have been made in Prabhag 38, wherein many localities have been altered from pervious election. Some minor corrections were carried out to rectify some errors that had earlier crept into during the exercise of preparing the map for recently held Assembly election. One change from the recently held Assembly election is noticed in Prabhag 1 and 2 whose boundaries got separated.

 

The rule book states that census block and Prabhag boundaries should be interpolated but in the Assembly Polls some localities got separated and were listed in North and Central Nagpur. After studying the inconsistency, the Election Branch did their homework properly and carried out the necessary changes. The second change was in Prabhag no. 14 and 27 where though on ground there was no issue, the map showed the error. So that part was also corrected to mirror equality. The last date for submission of objections is September 4 after which, the draft will be resent to State Election Commission by NMC for final notification.

 

The final composition of Prabhag will be notified by October. NMC has been under Administrator rule since last three-and-half years and in absence of corporators, the administration is facing uphill task of establish the connect with citizens. For people, the corpoarators were first and last ray of hope and with them out of contention, the ground level issues remain unresolved for a very long time. With NMC facing uphill task of managing the civic issues, the lack of deep pockets plus shortage of manpower due to freeze on new recruitments combined to take toll on response of machinery to resolving civic problems.
