Nagpur’s Sable finishes second best in Fide rating chess
ANAND Roy of Chhattisgarh won the title in 5th Nagpur Below 1700 FIDE Rating Chess Tournament organised by Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation, GH Raisoni Sports and Welfare Foundation and SG Realty held at GH Raisoni Institute of Information and Technology, Shraddha Park, Nagpur.
In all 617 players participated in the event which included 264 internationally rated players, 56 veteran and 92 female participants. Roy, with 8½ points out of 9 rounds remained unbeaten, to win the title with half point more than the rest. Nagpur’s Chadrashekhar Sable, who was leading the table at the end of sixth round, finished second with 8 points. Yuval Sunil Mohurle, of Nagpur, also scored 8 points but was declared third on the basis of tie-break scores.
Roy got richer by Rs 50000 as the winner’s prize along with a glittering trophy.
Sable got the runners-up trophy and Rs 30000 as cash prize. Mohurle got Rs 25000 as cash prize. Apart from cash prizes to top 20 winners, prizes were distributed to Best unrated player, Best Veteran Player (50+ and 60+) and Best Rating Categories. Trophies were awarded to the Best Under-7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 & 19 age group winners. Total Prize fund of Rs 3,00,000 was at stake. Prizes for the event were sponsored by SG Realty.
Ramesh Chopade, ex-Corporator was chief guest of the prize distribution ceremony. Vaishali Chopade, ex-Corporator and Director of Sakaldrishti Social Foundation was the guest of honour along with Jaiprakash Bhattad, Promoter, SG Realty and Himanshu Sharma, Dean GH Raisoni College.
Bhushan Shriwas, Organising Secretary was also present on the dais. SS Soman Member, MCA Observer Committee conducted the proceedings and proposed a vote of thanks.
The tournament was recognised by the Chess Association Nagpur, Maharashtra Chess Association, All India Chess Federation and FIDE.
