A growing pattern of negligence coming to light with these occuring incidents in the city

A tragic incident in the early hours of Monday has sparked outrage across the city after a pregnant cow and her unborn calf were killed in a road accident at Trimurti Nagar. The cow, resting quietly at the roadside, was struck by a speeding car at around 3 am, leaving her fatally injured. When The Hitavada spoke to an activist about this growing trend in the city, she stated that “Incidents like these happen when the owners of cowsheds do not bother for their cows’ well-being. Cows do not like damp areas to sit on and are always looking for dry patches of land they can rest on. When the cowsheds are damp, the cows wander around looking for the dry patches and eventually find the cement roads to be dry and rest there.

These then cause accidents and mishaps which lead to situations which occurred Monday morning.” According to locals present at the scene, the cow’s body was left lying lifeless on the ground, with no immediate help available. Bystanders gradually gathered, shocked by the sight. Rahul, an eyewitness, stated that the cow’s owner arrived shortly afterwards with several others. When asked about the responsibility of the body, the owner reportedly responded dismissively, insisting that it was the corporation’s duty to remove it.

Rahul further added that attempts to photograph the incident were resisted by the owner and his companions, who demanded that no pictures be taken. This is the third such case in recent weeks involving cows struck while sitting by the roadside. In an earlier incident at Mhalgi Nagar, a driver who ran over a cow allegedly justified his actions with the remark, “She was in the way.” These repeated occurrences have deeply unsettled residents, who see them as evidence of growing recklessness among drivers and a lack of accountability.
