‘Maidan-E-Ishq’ book released
Renowned commentator Padma Shri Sushil Doshi lamented the way current Hindi commentators are presenting the game through their language and said they should use proper words to present their view.
Joshi was speaking during the book launch of sports journalist Mateen Khan, ‘Maidan-E-Ishq’, held at a city hotel on Friday.
“Now-a-days commentators are using ‘slang’ language while commentating on a match. I feel they should use language which attracts the listeners,” said Doshi.
Doshi also recalled how Hindi language made it possible to reach cricket to farms and kitchens of rural India where once women, too, tuned to All India Radio to listen to the
commentary.
“Commentators need to be a bit considerate about their choice of words while on Live TV.
It is pretty understandable that channels want to rope in cricketing stars and celebrities for commentaries but they should also gain some knowledge about the language they are talking in,” said Doshi.
Dr Vijay Darda, former Rajya Sabha MP and Chairman of the editorial board of Lokmat Media, was the chief guest.
Darda noted that cricket had been allowed to be “commercialised” and maintained that it should share its glory and bounty in promoting other games in the nation.
Veteran sports journalist, columnist and author Ayaz Memon, former India cricketer and Chairman of Cricket Development Committee of Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Prashant Vaidya, senior editor of Lokmat Samachar Vikas Mishra, Mateen Khan’s wife Uzma and sister Sayeeda shared the dais. President of Dande Foundation Dr Pinak Dande chaired the function.
The programme was compared by Dr Ram Thakur, while Kabir Khan proposed a vote of thanks.
