A 31-year-old Home Guard ended his life by jumping from a flyover at Pagalkhana Chowk on Monday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Yashwant Ramesh Shahu, a resident of Kukreja Nagar, Jaripatka. The incident occurred around 1.30 pm under the limits of Mankapur Police Station. Yashwant was also working with the Maharashtra Ex-Servicemen Corporation (MESCO) security agency, along with his duties as a Home Guard.
According to the police, Yashwant rode his motorcycle to the flyover, parked it at the roadside and placed his helmet on the mirror. He then took a water bottle from his bag and drank some water.
Moments later, he jumped off the flyover and ended his life. A police official said that, Yashwant sustained grievous injuries on the head during the incident. Police rushed to the spot soon after receiving the information. They identified him through the vehicle number. Another Home Guard who was nearby also recognised Yashwant. His body was sent to Mayo Hospital for post-mortem.
The reason behind Yashwant’s extreme step remains unknown. No suicide note was found at the scene.
Police have registered a case of accidental death and started an investigation.
