Searches at residences
As per the procedure, though the trap could not succeed, the ACB team went ahead with conducting searches at houses of both the accused named in the FIR.
An FIR is registered at Sadar Police Station against PSI Govind Raut and HC Chandrashekhar Ghagre. Further probe is underway.
As the date to file the chargesheet was nearing, the two policemen offered to dilute the charges so that the complainant can get relief. As the duo demanded a bribe of Rs one lakh, the man approached ACB and registered a complaint against the two cops on August 4. The same day, ACB laid a trap at Police Bhavan and as per the procedure dispatched the complaint.
As per the decided plan, Police Inspector Mayur Chourasia, Vivek Padghan and team lay in wait at a corner in EoW office waiting for an agreed signal from the complainant.
The EoW office is at the Police Bhavan, it houses office of Commissioner of Police too.
The PSI and HC met the complainant as per earlier agreed terms to complete the transcation. But, at last moment, the two cops sensed something was wrong and backtracked from completing the deal. The PSI and HC moved away and went to their respective desk and the trap failed.
A shocking expose has come to fore that too at the Police Bhavan that houses the offices of top city police officials as Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) booked two staff of Economic Offences Wing for demanding Rs 1 lakh bribe.
The ACB, however, could not succeed in trapping the Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) and his writer, Head Constable (HC), as the duo balked at last moment and refused to accept the marked notes. Though the trap failed, ACB had the statement of two panchas in front of whom the two had demanded bribe to let off the accused lightly in the ongoing court case. The duo booked by ACB are identified as PSI Govind Raut (51) and HC Chandrashekhar Ghagre (50). As per information, the complaint was under probe in case relating to cheating in a land deal. An FIR was filed at Wathoda Police Station and the matter was referred to the EoW. PSI Raut and HC Ghagre were conducting the investigations.
