CITY’S Dr Shantanu Sengupta, a heart failure specialist, recently completed the Ironman 70.3 in the city of Tallinn, Estonia.
Ironman 70.3 is a triathlon which comprises 1.9 km swimming followed by 90 km of cycling and then 21 km of running. The swimming in Tallinn was in the cold Baltic sea, which is near the Artic circle. This time the race in Tallinn has been considered a tough race due to the harsh weather conditions.
The sea swim was cold and choppy and the 90km cycling was in cold rainy track. Training for ironman demands a good hold on all the three sports of swimming, cycling and running.
Dr Sengupta has been active fitness lover. Apart from running marathon, he also organises running event ‘Pulse Marathon’. He has been a active researcher in the field of sports cardiologist. He says that the training for an ironman needs a lot of discipline and a good nutritional support along with strength training.
