Programme‘Rang Habib’ today

 

 

On the birth anniversary of legendary theatre personality Habib Tanvir, the Chhattisgarh Film and Visual Art Society, Raipur will host a cultural evening ‘Rang Habib’ at Janmanch, Saddu, on September 1 at 7 pm. The programme will feature the staging of selected scenes from Tanvir’s popular play “Gaon ke Naan Sasurar Mor Naan Damad”, directed by Rachna Mishra. The event will also include a lecture by Yog Mishra on Tanvir’s distinctive theatrical style and his contribution to Indian theatre. In addition, veteran artist Amar Singh, who worked closely with Tanvir, will be felicitated.

 

The play will see Hemant Yadav in the role of Budhwa, Thavendra Rajak as the father, Sandhya Verma as Manti, Manisha Dubey as Shanti, Maheshwar Mangal as Chhanglu, Hemant Nishad as the third man, Seema Soni as Dewarin, and Umesh Upadhyay as Pandit. Habib Tanvir, born on September 1, 1923, in Raipur, earned worldwide recognition for blending folk traditions with contemporary themes, taking theatre to the grassroots. He passed away in Bhopal on June 8, 2009, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire theatre across generations.
