The Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday cleared a approval to raise Rs 2,000 crore from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd (HUDCO) under the Urban Infrastructure Development Loan Scheme to help municipal bodies mobilise matching funds for infrastructure projects. The decision will enable Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation to access Rs 822.22 crore for a water supply project, Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) to raise Rs 268.84 crore for four sewage treatment projects, and Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation to get Rs 116.28 crore for a water supply project.

The scheme is designed to ensure that projects under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0, Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, Maharashtra Suvarna Jayanti Nagarothhan Maha Abhiyan and other state/central initiatives do not stall due to lack of funds. Extension to electricity bill concession for lift irrigation schemes The Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday approved the extension of the electricity tariff concession scheme for ultra-high pressure, high pressure and low pressure lift irrigation schemes for farmers for another two years, i.e. till March 2027. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. This will result in huge savings in the cost of about 1,789 lift irrigation schemes in the State and the farmers associated with these lift irrigation schemes will benefit directly. This electricity tariff concession scheme has made it easier for farmers in the State to provide water for their crops. This is helping to increase agricultural income.

Therefore, this electricity tariff concession scheme announced earlier has helped in improving the standard of living of farmers and increasing their agricultural income. Considering this particular aspect the Cabinet decided to extend this welfare scheme till March 31, 2027. In this scheme, the concessional electricity rate for the customers of the ultra-high pressure and high-pressure lifting water irrigation scheme is Rs 1.16 per unit and a fixed rate of Rs 25 per month (per KVA) and the concessional electricity rate for the customers of the low-pressure lifting water irrigation scheme is Rs 1 per unit and a fixed rate of Rs 15 per month (per horsepower) has been approved to be maintained till March 31, 2027. With this concession, the State Government has approved the payment of Rs 886.15 crore for the annual year 2025-26 and Rs. 872.23 crore for the financial year 2026-27 to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited to compensate for the revenue deficit.
