As part of the nation-wide campaign on re-verification of KYC documents from July 1 till September 9, banks across Vidarbha have conducted 5,911 camps and updated over 2.77 lakh bank accounts via re-KYC. This was revealed by Sachin Y Shende, Regional Director (RD), RBI, Nagpur while speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday.
Anjana Shyamnath, Deputy General Manager, Financial Inclusion and Development Department (FIDD), RBI, Nagpur, and other senior officials were also present at the meeting. Shende has personally participated in 20 camps across 9 out of 11 districts.
Shende further said that a large number of PMJDY accounts which were opened upto 2015 have now become due for re-KYC of low risk accounts every 10 years.
In the usual process, other bank accounts also become due for re-KYC as per their periodicity. Non-completion of KYC will lead to a situation where the account holders will not be in a position to operate their accounts and access the Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) credited to their accounts as part of various Government schemes.
He elaborated that on a pan India basis banks have conducted a total 2.18 lakh camps in Gram Panchayats (GPs), and re-KYC has successfully been done in 1.95 crore bank accounts through these camps.
All the banks are holding camps at Gram Panchayat (GP) level for re-verification of KYC of existing Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts as well as other bank accounts, and enrolment under social security schemes, i.e., Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojaya (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY). “The general public is urged to visit the nearest camp by September 30 to complete their re-KYC formalities and ensure continued banking services,” he said.
