A speeding oil tanker carrying thousands of liters of flammable fuel overturned after a tyre burst on the four-lane highway near Kharun Green Colony in Kumhari, Durg, on Saturday morning. The mishap occurred around 10:15 am during peak traffic hours, raising the risk of a major tragedy, but fortunately no injuries were reported.
According to information, the tanker was en route to a soap factory in Tedesara, Rajnandgaon, when it lost balance and overturned midway, spilling oil across the road.
The spillage created a high risk of fire and disruption of traffic flow. On receiving the alert, a Kumhari police team
rushed to the spot, pressed a JCB into service, and spread sand to neutralize the spill. The tanker was later removed to clear the highway for smooth vehicular movement. I/c SHO, Kumhari Police Station, Yogeshwar Verma, informed that necessary safety measures were promptly taken to avert any untoward mishap and restore the traffic flow through the location.
