The newly-arrived Municipal Commissioner Ram Prakash Ahirwar conducted an inspection along with the Health Department officials at Ranital Garbage Transfer station and the compost plant, on Saturday. He reviewed the functioning of the plant, instructed officials to maintain systematic records and emphasised the need for proper upkeep. The Municipal Commissioner later inspected cleanliness arrangements in Civil Lines, Civic Centre and wards across all four divisions and directed concerned officials to further improve sanitation standards. During the inspection, Ahirwar also examined garbage collection vehicles and asked that they be kept clean. He also asked to ensure segregation of waste into separate compartments before disposal. Stressing the need for greater efforts, he said that the aim should be to secure a better ranking in the Swachh Survekshan this year.

The Municipal Commissioner further directed that C&D (construction and demolition) material be managed in an organised manner and asked the health officials to maintain regular focus on the cleanliness campaign with greater efficiency and discipline. It may be noted that while assuming charge two days before, the newly-appointed Municipal Commissioner said that development and cleanliness will remain his top priorities. His appointment comes at a time when the city is looking to strengthen its performance in cleanliness drives and Smart City projects. He said providing basic facilities to citizens is the core responsibility of the civic body and special efforts will be made in this direction. Ahirwar set a goal of moving Jabalpur’s ranking from fifth position to second and assured that groundwork would begin immediately to achieve this target. He also underlined that all ongoing government schemes will be effectively implemented to ensure that eligible beneficiaries and the general public receive their due benefits. Additional Commissioner, Health Officer, Assistant Health Officer and Chief Sanitation Inspectors of all zones were present during the inspection.
