NMRDA inks pact with MahaGenco for taking 232.54 Ha of thermal power plant’s land on lease for development of tourist spots.
Tapping into the natural beauty that adorns the outskirts of city, Maharashtra Government has conceptualised an ecotourism park at Koradi, known for the first power project of MahaGenco based on supercritical thermal technology. The tourism project is aimed at providing more opportunity for tourists visiting the city, which is also called as the tiger capital of India. Already, Koradi boasts of Bhavan’s Sanskritik Kendra along with famed Maa Jagdamda Temple. Now to harness the tourism potential further, Maharashtra Government is now going for adding to tourism facilities in the surrounding.
For the same, Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) inked a pact with Maharastra State Power Generation Company Limited (MSPGCL) to develop eco tourism project on 232.54 Ha land.
A pact was signed between NMRDA and MahaGenco at Mumbai in presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday. The agreement states that MahaGenco is handing over its spare land to NMRDA for a period of 30 years on lease. For the land, NMRDA is going to provide nominal Rs 1. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar along with other Maharashtra Ministers including Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule were also present.
The said lands falls under village Koradi, Mahadula, Khaparkheda, Nanda (Kamptee tehsil) and Mouza Ghogali, Nagpur Rural. Koradi is MahaGenco's powerhouse as it is here 660x3 supercritical thermal power station. Plus two more similar units are planned in the next couple of years.
These land parcels are embedded with rich flora and fauna and hence fit for development of world class tourism facilities, where they can enjoy leisurely time in midst of wood and green surroundings. Among various tourism centric facilities planned are water sports, non-motorised boating (paddle boats, kayaks and canoes), eco-friendly Shikara and floating decks rides, bird watching on floating platforms, and ecotourism projects. The Koradi Lake is going to be tapped fully to rollout the water based sports and facilities that would cater to visiting tourists.
Koradi and Ghogali are well connected with city and hence it would help in movement of tourists with ease. Also the ecotourism project would create employment and create new growth centres.
