Of 77 dams in district, water level in 55 dams touched
the 100% mark on Wednesday; Administration appeals
citizens to be vigilant, avoid venturing near water bodies

The torrential rain in last few days filled all 77 dams of Nagpur district up to danger level mark. The district has five major, 12 medium and 60 minor reservoirs. Of these, 11 medium and 44 minor dams have 100 per cent water level after Tuesday’s heavy rains in the district.
With water level at danger mark, the Administration has started releasing water from Totladoh dam on Wednesday morning. Total 14 gates of Totladoh are lifted by 0.3 mt which releasing 443.57 cumecs water.
Gates of Navegaon Khairy dam in Parseoni taluka also were lifted on Wednesday after heavy rains in the catchment area. Four gates of the dam were lifted by 0.3 mt whereas 10 gates were raised by 0.5 mt. Navegaon Khairy has 99.99% of water stock till Wednesday evening.
Wadgaon dam, which is situated very close to Nagpur city, is releasing 409 cumecs water from its nine gates which were lifted by 25 cm. Constant rain that is going on in Madhya Pradesh is also caused increased water level in major dams in Nagpur district. Chaurai dam, in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh is discharging 101.92 cumecs water from its four gates which were lifted by 0.6 mt on Wednesday.
Releasing water from Chaurai dam, increased the water level in Navegaon Khairy which led to opening of gates in Nagpur district.
Khindsi and Nand dams are also have water level more than 95% and the rains in coming days will lead to opening of gates in these dams as well.
Similarly, out of 12 medium dams, the administration issued ‘red alert’ for citizens residing near 11 dams in the district as these reservoirs already touched the 100% mark. The authorities appealed villagers to be vigilant and avoid venturing near water bodies. Wena, Kanholibara, Pandhrabodi, Makardhokda, Sayaki, Chandrabhaga, Mordham, Kesarnala, Umri, Koalar, and Jam reservoirs have water level up to its full capacity. Khekranala is the only dam in the district that yet to touch the 100% mark.
