Frustrated over not receiving salaries for the past four months, sanitation workers in Ranjhi on Thursday staged a dramatic protest that threw the area into chaos. Angry workers intercepted garbage collection vehicles from Mastana Chowk to Darshan Singh Tiraha and dumped the waste on the roads, forcing officials and public representatives to take notice. The situation escalated to the point that police had to be called in to maintain order.

As per the information received, around 150 workers employed under a private contract company have been engaged in sanitation duties across various wards in Ranjhi. However, they allegedly have not been paid for four months. The Jabalpur Municipal Corporation had reportedly cancelled the contract with the company, which then challenged the decision in court. Meanwhile, the workers continued their duties but their wages remained pending, with no agency or department addressing the issue. The massive protest pressed immediate intervention by senior JMC officials. Mayor-in-Council member Damodar Soni also rushed to the spot and gave a written assurance that the workers’ pending salaries would be cleared by next Tuesday. Only after the assurance the workers called off their agitation.
