To press the demand of implementing ‘Carry on’, the students pursuing course of Pharmacy laid siege at the office of Vice-Chancellor (V-C) of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) on Thursday. Following the 5 hours drama, V-C Dr Madhavi Khode-Chaware could leave the office at Jamnalal Bajaj Bhavan at 10.30 pm. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Subhash Kondawar, Registrar Dr Raju Hiwase, Dean of Science and Technology Dr Umesh Palikundwar and some other officers reached Ambazari Police Station to lodge a complaint against students for creating ruckus in the office. In a move to save the year of a lot of students, RTMNU, on August 2, 2025 had decided to apply ‘Carry on’ rule for only the students of the batch 2024-25.

The students who lost the year during the academic year 2024-25, will be able to appear in current examination, clearing which they can move to higher class. There will be no special examination, Dr Khode-Chaware made it clear. Students had been protesting for the ‘Carry on’ facility. The decision was made after a constant protest by students organisations led by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Accordingly, a special meeting of Academic Council was convened and the issue was placed for the decision.

The students of Pharmacy, Education have been excluded. A meeting of Academic Council to take final decision on the carry on issue was scheduled at 4 pm on Thursday. All have unanimously decided to seek the advice of Government over the issue. Meanwhile, a mob of students gathered outside the university and started raising slogans demanding ‘Carry on’ facility to the pharmacy students too.

They gradually reached the meeting hall adjacent to the V-C’s office. They all sat in the corridor and insisted that the Academic Council should take a decision in their favor granting them ‘Carry on’. Finally, the Vice-Chancellor and other officers convened an emergent meeting inside her chamber. As the students were not in a mood to leave the office, the varsity authority called police. The policemen requested students to leave but they did not budge. The drama continued till 10.30 when the students left and came out of the office. The university officers went to police station. Whether a case was registered or not could not be known.
