THE women of Buldega village in tribal-dominated Jashpur district have once again raised their voices against the production and sale of illicit liquor. They took out a massive rally in the village, protesting the trade and appealing local residents to stay aware of its harmful effects. Emphasizing their goal of creating a drug-free and disciplined society, the women submitted an application to Kotba police outpost, highlighting the dangers of illicit Mahua liquor and the problems it has caused within households. According to the sources, the women of Gram Panchayat Buldega have formed a committee to address the issue.

The committee noted that illegal Mahua liquor is being produced and sold on a large scale, forcing even minor children in some families to sell household ration and other essentials to buy alcohol. The widespread consumption of liquor has led to quarrels, verbal abuse and unrest in homes, disturbing the social fabric of the village. During the rally, the women cautioned villagers against producing or selling Mahua liquor and warned that, in case of non-compliance, strict action would be taken in coordination with the police and local administration. The committee, which includes a president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary, the Sarpanch, and other local women, deliberated and finalised this proactive plan of action. This strong initiative has created apprehension among local liquor sellers, while the wider community has welcomed the move, pledging full support for the anti-liquor campaign.

The village now sends a clear message: illegal liquor will not be tolerated in Buldega Panchayat under any circumstances. The women also acknowledged the support of Kotba police outpost in-Charge Brijesh Yadav, who assured full cooperation in their efforts. Police personnel were deployed during the rally to prevent untoward incidents and ensure the smooth conduct of awareness activities. The intervention aims not only to curb illegal liquor but also to reinforce the pivotal role of women in building a safer, healthier, and disciplined village.
