City-based Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) set a historic milestone, becoming the first subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL) to launch TEJAS - Transforming Emerging Juniors into Aspiring Stars, an innovative human resources initiative designed to shape the future leaders of India’s energy sector. This grounding break programme was inaugurated by J P Dwivedi, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Western Coalfields Limited, in the presence of all functional directors, including Director (Finance) Bikram Ghosh; Director Technical (Operations and P&P) Anand Prasad; Director (Human Resources) Dr Hemant Sharad Pande; and Chief Vigilance Officer Ajay Madhukar Mhetre; along with Steering Committee members Ashish Murthy and S R Gabale.

More than just a training programme, TEJAS is a pioneering movement that embraces the digital-first mindset and creative energy of 657 Gen - Z officers. Structured as an intensive 84-hour programme spread over 12 days in 10 batches, it is meticulously designed to focus on capacity building, talent grooming and succession planning. A distinctive feature of TEJAS is its balanced learning model in which 75 per cent of the sessions will be led by in-house faculty and 25 per cent by external experts.

The course will cover every practical aspect of the coal sector, from rules and regulations to future challenges, ensuring participants evolve into holistic leaders for India. At the heart of TEJAS lies the visionary leadership of Dr Hemant Sharad Pande, Director (HR), WCL, whose mission is to foster a youth-driven culture that not only strengthens WCL’s organisational resilience but also redefines leadership across the coal industry. The programme is being conducted by HRD Department of WCL under the supervision of GM (Min./HRD) U C Gupta and his team.
