In an act most despicable, a family of three duped a widow to tune of Rs 1.10 crore in name of investing the money in mutual fund. The complainant is Varsha Thakre (39), a resident of Rahtekarwadi, Dasra Road, Mahal. The accused trio are Ram Vasani (46) and Sejal Vasani (40), residents of 131, Sai Plaza, Chapru Nagar, and Naresh Vasani (54), Bungalow no 46, Venkatesh Nagar.
Kotwali Police stated that Thakre’s husband recently passed away. He had taken out two term policies.
The complainant Varsha Thakre (39), a resident of Rahtekarwadi, received claim
of two terms policies of
her husband Mangesh. As part of settlement claim, Varsha and her minor son received compensation of Rs 1,10,90,000. The prime accused, along with his wife and brother, met Varsha on September 19 and convinced Varsha her to invest the claim money in mutual fund assuring handsome benefit.
Trusting Vasvani family fully, Varsha issued the cheque for the entire amount. However, the prime accused Ram allegedly deposited the cheque in his account and gobbled up the money. When Varsha sought details about the mutual fund, Vasvani gave evasive replies. Acting on the FIR, Kotwali Police has registered offence under secs. 316 (2), 316 (5), 316 (3), 336 (3) and 3 (5) of BNS. Police have arrested Ram Vasvani. Futher investigations are on.
