Staff Reporter :
Police have cracked a high-profile mobile snatching case within 50 hours, arresting two minors in connection with the theft of the mobile phone belonging to Intelligence IG Dr Ashish. The stolen Android phone has also been recovered. The accused minors had hidden the phone, wrapped in polythene, in a four-feet-deep pit near their home in Durga Nagar. Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra detailed the case, stating the incident occurred on Tuesday night in the Char Imli area under the Habibganj police station jurisdiction.
IG Dr Ashish and his wife were out for a walk when three suspects on a motorcycle snatched his two mobile phones. The accused later discarded one phone (an iPhone) but fled with the Android phone. This particular phone was reported to contain sensitive State security data, raising immediate high-level concerns.
250+ CCTV Footages Examined: The Police Commissioner confirmed that over 250 CCTV camera footages were meticulously scanned to identify the culprits. Following the investigation, the two apprehended minors were interrogated, leading to the recovery of the Android phone.
A third accused, however, remains at large. Police have traced the third suspect’s location near Salkanpur, and multiple teams have been deployed for his arrest.
Interrogation Underway: Police are currently interrogating the arrested minors to determine if any data from the highly sensitive phone was leaked. The incident, which took place in a high-security zone, has also raised questions about the overall security arrangements in the area.
Police have assured that the absconding suspect will be arrested soon and that a full disclosure of the entire case will be provided.
