The Bhopal Police force has intensified security preparations to ensure a peaceful and safe celebration of the upcoming Dussehra festival. Following the Navratri festivities, a comprehensive security plan blending traditional policing with modern technology has been implemented to manage crowds and secure major Ramlila and Ravan Dahan events across the city.
Under the security strategy spearheaded by
Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra, aerial surveillance using drone cameras, rigorous CCTV monitoring, deployment of extra forces in plain clothes, and close monitoring of social media for misinformation will be key features.
Women’s Safety is Priority, Durga Shakti Teams Activated: This year’s security plan places special emphasis on the safety of women and girls. A contingent of 300 ‘Durga Shakti’ female police personnel has been fully mobilised across the city’s four zones, covering Garba pandals, Navratri venues, and crowded areas. These teams are tasked with patrolling and maintaining security in various police station jurisdictions. To swiftly curb incidents of harassment, these officers are deployed in plain clothes to easily apprehend offenders.
Additionally, Anti-Romeo Squads have been stationed near temples, puja pandals, and other busy locations.
24/7 Surveillance via Drones and CCTV: Technology forms a critical component of the security deployment. Drone cameras will be used for overhead surveillance at Ravan Dahan sites to quickly detect any chaos or untoward incidents. All puja pandals and fairgrounds have been
mandated to install CCTV cameras. Temporary control rooms have been established for the 24x7 monitoring of this footage.
In busy areas like Holkar Stadium, Tulsi Nagar, and Bagmugalia, plainclothes police officers will maintain a sharp watch for suspicious activities. The police Cyber Cell is actively working to prevent the spread of rumours and inflammatory content on social media. Strict action will be taken against anyone posting objectionable comments or fake videos. The Durga Shakti App serves as a vital tool in ensuring rapid response.
Upon receiving a complaint via the app, the Police Control Room immediately notifies the nearest Durga Shakti team, ensuring assistance reaches the scene within 10 to 15 minutes. Special vigilance will also be maintained at Ramlila venues and during the immersion of Durga idols this year.
On the Dussehra security arrangements, Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra stated, “Our team is fully prepared. With the help of drones, CCTVs, and Anti-Romeo Squads, we will monitor every potential threat. Those spreading rumours on social media will not be spared. We urge citizens to enjoy the festival but remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. Our goal is to ensure a crime-free and safe Dussehra.”
