During marriage, when Rs. 20,000 was offered during Lagun ceremony, Ankit Patel returned the Lagun saying that Rs. 50,000 were required as dowry, after much persuasion husband Ankit kept Rs. 20,000.

At the time of Dwarchar, when groom Ankit Patel demanded a gold ring, Mahima’s father Rajesh Kushwaha gave 20,000 rupees to him. After marriage, husband Patel and mother-in-law Manju Patel (Kachhi) used to ask for a big fridge, big cooler and Royal Enfield motorcycle in dowry.

When their demands were not met, they used to beat her and torture her physically and mentally. Fed up with the continuous physical and mental torture, Mahima committed suicide by consuming poison. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of BNS.
