“Many feel compelled to speak more to be noticed in the courtroom these days, but in court, less is often more. A lawyer’s strength lies not in the length of words, but in their clarity,” said Justice P S Narasimha, Judge of the Supreme Court, on Saturday. Speaking at the felicitation of Justice Atul S Chandurkar, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, he added, “Every profession carries responsibility, but in law, the obligation on the shoulders of lawyers is unique and heavy.” He explained that lawyers must present precise, measured arguments to help the court uncover the truth. Justice Chandurkar was felicitated at a grand function organised by the High Court Bar Association (HCBA), Nagpur, at the Grand Airport Banquet, Wardha Road.
 
The event was attended by Justice Narasimha as chief guest, Justice Nitin Sambre of the Delhi High Court as guest of honour, and Justice Anil Kilor, Administrative Judge of the Bombay High Court, Nagpur Bench. Justice Chandurkar’s wife, Gayatri Chandurkar, shared the dais with HCBA President Adv Atul Pande and Secretary Adv Amol Jaltare. Justice Narasimha further said, “The responsibility of justice cannot rest solely with the judge. Lawyers share that responsibility. By presenting clear and balanced arguments, they strengthen the decision-making process and ensure justice is served.” He urged young lawyers to cultivate clarity, restraint, and responsibility.
 
He praised Justice Chandurkar for his humility, clarity, and balanced judgments and noted that he chose duty over comfort and earned admiration from the entire Bar for his dignified conduct as a lawyer and judge. Law is living promise to people: Justice Nitin Sambre Justice Nitin Sambre said,
 
“This felicitation is not just a personal celebration but pride for the entire Nagpur Bench, which functions like one family. In his rise, we also see the rise of our institution’s values - hard work, integrity, and community.” He added, “Justice Chandurkar is admired for his soft-spoken and composed nature. His calmness, deep scholarship, and precision have always defined him. His judgments reflect fairness, balance and humanity, reminding us that law is not lifeless, but a living promise to the people.” Justice Sambre noted, “What makes him special is his strength in silence, his sincerity without show and dignity without display.
 
These are the true qualities of a judge.” Justice Chandurkar is an excellent judge: Justice Anil Kilor Justice Anil Kilor said, “Justice Chandurkar’s judgments show clarity, balance, and dignity. Watching him conduct proceedings is like attending a masterclass in fairness and efficiency. His humility, wisdom, and integrity make him a true role model. His elevation brings honour not only to the Bench, but also to the Bar and the city he represents.
 
He added, “He is known not only as an excellent and knowledgeable judge but also as a humble, soft-spoken person whose words always carry weight. Adv Atul Pande said, “From his early days of practice at the High Court Bar in Nagpur, he stood out for his calm approach, deep research, and clear advocacy. As a Judge, his judgments have reflected clarity, balance, fairness and commitment to constitutional values.” His elevation to the Supreme Court of India, it is not only an honour for him and his family but a matter of pride for Vidarbha and the entire legal fraternity of Maharashtra,said Adv Pande. Acknowledging family support, he said,
 
“Behind his success stands his wife Gayatri, children and late father who instilled in him the values we see today.” ‘Justice Chandurkar has positive aura’ Government Pleader and Sr Counsel Devendra Chauhan said, “What impresses everyone is not Justice Chandurkar’s presence, but the positive aura he generates. Even as a young lawyer, he remained humble, polite, and calm, handling tough opponents and judges with grace. He was a ‘cooling tower’ in heated moments, always composed and fair.” Chauhan further said, “On the bench, he may not be very vocal, but his soft-spoken words and comforting smile can calm the most tense courtroom. He combines patience, humor, and inner strength to deliver justice effectively. We are truly fortunate to witness his journey and celebrate his elevation today.”
