final of the Father Peter Mermier
Football Tournament.
The final will be played on
Monday at StJohn’s High School
ground, Mohan Nagar.
Father AgneloFernandes, former Ex-Superior General of the
MSFS,
will grace the final as the
chief guest.
Inthesemi-final,hostsSt John’s
High School showcased authority and composure to overcome
Bishop Cotton School 2-0.
Thebreakthroughcamein the
10th minute when Sahil
Samudre’s calculated cross from
the right flank was deflected by
a Bishop Cotton defender into
his own net,
gifting St John’s the
lead. Bishop Cotton’s goalkeeper Amish pulled off some outstanding saves to keep his team
in contention, but StJohn’s doubled the advantage in the secondhalf.MosesJosephdelivered
along, precise ball from the
centreline,whichYashRajwadecontrolled brilliantly before finishing neatly tomakeit 2-0 and seal
their place in the final.
In the second semi-final, SFSSchool edged past St Joseph’sHigh School, Fetri 2-1, thanks toamatch-
winningbrace fromstarstriker Lokansh Chawre, guidedtacticallybycoachArvinGeorge.StJoseph’sopened the scoringin the8thminute throughAnmolKanojiya, but SFS respondedquickly.Aminute later,
Chawreequalisedbyconvertingachancecreated from the right flank.
The decisivemoment cameinthe second half when SamuelFrancis set up Chawre again inthe12thminute.Thestrikermadeno mistake, finishing clinicallyto put SFS 2-1 ahead —aleadthey held onto until the finalwhistle.
