Teacher Dr Pragya Singh, who is posted as a teacher at Government Middle School Hanod in Durg district, will be honoured with ‘National Teacher Award-2025’ in New Delhi on the occasion of National Teachers’ Day, on September 5. Dr Pragya Singh has made a significant contribution to rural education for the past 17 years. Despite social and family challenges, especially the addiction of parents and their indifference towards education, she gave priority to education.

Due to his initiative, 100% girl child attendance was recorded in the school, which is a big achievement. Known for innovation, Dr Singh created ‘Ideal Math’s Lab’ and ‘Math’s Park’ amidst limited resources, which made mathematics interesting and playful for children. He also established ‘Ullhas Kendra’, where a unique initiative was taken to teach literacy and numeracy with the help of household items. The result of these efforts is that so far 23 students have cleared the National Merit-cum-Merit Scholarship Examination (NMMSE) while many students have reached prestigious institutes like Shrestha and Prayas. This initiative of the Central Government to provide national level recognition to rural and innovative teachers is getting appreciation in the education world. Experts believe that this programme will become an inspiration for millions of teachers and will pave the way for taking the quality of education to new heights.
